Employment
The FXB Center has several available employment opportunities:
Research Coordinator, Cost of Inaction (Req #: 21294)
Launched in August 2008, this initiative is exploring the “cost of inaction” of a failure to respond appropriately to children. With Professors Amartya Sen and Sudhir Anand directing the project, we address the complex challenges of enumerating and quantifying the multiple social and economic costs that follow when societies fail to address the pressing needs of their most vulnerable members. The project is now entering its third year. The first phase of the Cost of Inaction project focused on developing and applying a methodology to consider the consequences and costs that arise from a failure to respond to the needs of children affected (or infected) by HIV/AIDS. To this end, the project team developed a conceptual framework and detailed country case studies. Case studies are necessary to illustrate the choice of counterfactual actions which may be more or less desirable. Different counterfactual actions will give rise to different costs of inaction, and to different direct benefits of action. Given the focus on children affected by HIV/AIDS, case-study countries were selected from the region with the highest HIV prevalence, eastern and southern Africa.
The Cost of Inaction Research Coordinator will report directly to the Research Manager and manage all aspects of the Rwanda country case study. While the focus will be on the Rwandan case study, the Research Coordinator will be expected to assist with work on the Angola case study when necessary. The Research Coordinator's responsibilities include but are not limited to: 1) conducting research; 2) writing research reports; 3) disseminating and presenting research results and 4) serving as a liaison with in-country partners. The Research Coordinator will be expected to work independently and take interventions which have been selected for further analysis and, based on background research, conduct mathematical modeling of the benefits and costs for the selected interventions. Additionally, the Research Coordinator will be expected to make a contribution to a workshop on the Cost of Inaction project results to be held in the fall of 2010. Please note: This is a grant funded position through 6/30/2011.
